A Royal Renaissance Christmas
Tallis Missa Puer natus est
composed for the combined Chapels Royal of England and Spain
Byrd Propers for Christmas Day
Saturday, December 15, 8:00 p.m. at St. Paul's K Street
Sunday, December 16, 6:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette

  • Tallis composed his mighty, seven-part Missa puer natus est for performance on Christmas Day 1554 for Queen Mary and Phillip II
  • Byrd wrote the luminous music of his Gradualia, the crowning achievement of his long career, for Catholic masses celebrated in secret in the castles of his noble Catholic patrons



CONCERT THREE
Devotion To Our Lady
Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Virgin Mary's apearance to St. Bernadette at Lourdes
Music of Victoria for 8-Part Double Choir

Missa Salve Regina
Four Marian Antiphons: Alma Redemptoris Mater – Salve Regina – Ave Regina caelorum – Regina coeli
Magnificat and Marian motets

Saturday, February 9, 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary Mother of God

  • Victoria wrote some of his greatest music in honor of the Virgin Mary -- experience its emotional intensity and radiant beauty
  • Revel in the rich sound of superb 8-part polyphony for double choir

The Full Monte:
Music of Renaissance Master Philippe de Monte

Washington premieres of Missa Vestiva i colli, Motets in 5 and 6 parts
Saturday, April 19, 8:00 p.m. at St. Paul's K Street
Sunday, April 20, 6:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette

  • Monte, the Kapellmeister to the Hapsburg Imperial Court, was renowned in the 16th century as one of the greatest composers in Europe
  • Hear the Washington premieres of rarely-performed works by a master of Renaissance counterpoint and choral sonority



CONCERT FIVE
Masters of the 17th Century German Baroque
Celebrating the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first German in America
Music of Schein, Hassler, Praetorius
guest artists: Piffaro, the world-famous Renaissance wind band
